Have seen posts on here criticising lorries for having too much weight behind the rear wheels. Are there any circumstances where this is ok? eg weight of lorry, strength of floor?
Am asking as have seen a fab lorry but it does have a big overhang at the back. horses herring bone, will be carrying 14.2 x 2 max.
its a 6t
dont want to pay for a lorry inspector to just turn up and go "no thats hopeless" if you guys think thats the case

lorry experts?

Take it to a weighbridge. This will give you the rear axle weight, compare this to the plating cert & you'll be able to work out the safe limit.

If it's only 6ton, you may struggle.

Thanks guys
it wasnt so much the weight I was worried about, would have thought a 6t would be fine for 2 x 14.2 but I thought there were issues regarding too much horse area behind the axle?

Would rear axle weight be on the last plating?

I maybe wrong but as I understand it, the reason why the over hang is not wanted is purely because once the horses are on it puts all the weight on the back axle rather than in the middle of the two. making it possible it to be overweight on the rear axle (illegal) and or a least a less comfortable ride

the overhang can not be any longer than half the wheelbase. the maximum rear axle weight will be shown on the plating certificate in the cab. As long as neither of these are exceeded then you are legal.

That to me looks too long, and if you are questioning it you probably think it is too. Take it to a weighbridge to check. But I probably wouldn't buy it :)
