Hi everybody..

I am thinking of buying a lorry...And i was wondering how much it costs to run one per month, taking into account insurance, breakdown cover and maintenance. (exclude diesel)

Thanks

ours costs about £100/month.....incl ins( over 25) /breakdown/annual service/plating at garage......I expect if you do all own servicing it would be cheaper .....but if something went wrong it could be double that and more.

Hi, ours is an old Bedford, we paid 250 annual ins incl breakdown cover, the real cost is in the maintenance. We ahve just had a pre mot done so we can plate it for the year and have been quoted £1200 for the essential work to be done. However, we have had it for a year and havent spent any money on it and its been fab, starts first time and v reasonable on deisel.we love it and have bitten the bullet to plate it for another year as its been so reliable. I would say go for it!

If nothing goes wrong then insurance is about £400 per year including breakdown cover and then tax is I think about £170 per year and then your test/plate is about £40 and then a service can be anything depending on who you use and what needs tweaking.

depends how much you have to spend on a lorry as to what you get. If you buy an old heap you could be paying out quite a bit just keeping it in one piece.

Obviously insurance costs depend on the vehicle, my renewal has just arrived and stand at £480, breakdown/recovery at £77. Think the plating fee was £60/65, I needed some work done to the alternator and opted for a major service (wheels off job) plus the garage preped the lorry for its plate which cost about £930. Add to that the tax for a year at £165. All in all reckon it has cost me about £1600 to keep my lorry on the road.
