Lorry flooring advice please

Our new lorry needs part of the wooden floor replacing and as there is only one layer I want to refloor over the top so it is doubled floored.

What do I use? Marine ply???

Where would I get it from as im based in West Midlands?

there was a previous posting on this, a few weeks ago, worth having a look at. i had my lorry floor re-covered a month ago, and the garage guys didn't want to use marine ply, they recommended a bonded ply that's used in refrigeration lorries... i mentioned it in the other post, can't recall what it's called now.
make sure the steel cross-members the floor sits on are completely rust-free, too.

When I had my lorry built I was advised that the flooring was a double layer of Hardwood planks ( like traditional floorboards) and then a Glastonite ply. which is what I believe kerilli is talking about, I then had granulistic rubber covering, although this all put a bit of extra wieght on the lorry, better that than a horse going through the floor. if your lorry is close to the wieght limit then the Glastonite ply is strong enough on its own across the steel. hope this helps

You need to remove the entire floor to expose the supporting metal frame and cross members.

Remove all the rust and paint from the supporting metal frame and cross members and weld where necessary.

Apply new paint to the metal frame and cross members.

Fit good quality planking.


Fit good quality Marine Ply.

Installl rubber matting.

When doing the ramp you should only use marine quality ply and lightweight rubber matting to prevent the ramp becoming too heavy. Ensure you apply silicon sealer around the interface between the metal framework and the wooden ply to prevent rain water from ingressing in to the wood.
