Ok, am looking at getting a 3.5tonne box, and have been looking at VWLT35 and Renault masters, leaning owards the VWLT35 because of them being like little boxes, and having a luton to sleep in!!

Now realistically, am looking at anything from G reg upwards, and have seen a few at N reg upwards with FSH, not wanting anything flash, but something serviceable, with long MOT and service history. Any thoughts on how much to be paying!?? And any warning about the VW, or would people go for Renault types?!

i had a lt35

i loved it but it was a L reg and getting abit slow so i got a 7.5 man and iv just swapped it for a renault master X reg new conversion. and i have to say I LOVE my renault master! although it has no luton i wouldnt mind sleeping in the living on the floor!

I only take one horse at a time. one is 14.2hh and the other 15.3hh both tb's. the VW had less headroom than the renault has. the renault can carry up to 17.2hh i never travelled anything large in the VW as was on ponies! IMO the renault is the best, and my horses who are both bad to load, load 1st time and love travelling backwards! the ramp was also very steep on the VW

I have a renault master and I love it. My horse travels so well in it and runs up the ramp to get in! (she can be a bit funny about trailers and bigger boxes) I would definatly recommend them.

storage is abit of an issuewith the renault i can fit 2 sets of tack in the locker and there's over head storage and under seat storage but i take everything inc the kitchen sink with me when i travel so the living looks like a bomb has just gone off!

I manage to get all my stuff in and still have room to move. I have a small outside locker and then shove everything else in the back. If you look around you could pick one up cheaper. Most of them seem to be around 10k but I found mine for just under 7k, its a K reg but doesnt look that old.

Marlborough and MD Conversions are good - but Travel Two in Wales do second hand ones, and will service and deliver. Beware of shoddy conversions -if the floor's not properly sealed and urine leaks in under the rubber, it'll be a disaster. Also watch the ventilation - some of them don't have roof vents which will be a catastrophe in hot weather.
