I have looked online for some jump leads for the horse box, there appear to be many different specifications. Can any of you tech types tell me what I'll need for a 7.5t Daf with 24v system? And what are good brands to go for/ good shops to try?

We got extra long heavy duty ones from Halfords, not cheap, but they have been great. I think less robust ones will fry (well that's what I was told :) ) We also fitted an isolater switch, which has saved the battery from running down. Ours is a 7.5t Daf as well :)

Ebay are often/can be the cheapest.

12v/24V makes not much difference, jump leads are after all only cables with clips at the end.

The thicker the cable the more current they will carry (ie to a degree the thicker the better). I would suggest minimum 1200 amp for lorries.

Good long cables are essential on lorries where you often can't get side to side with the 'jumping vehicle'.

Good clips also essential, copper cables are generally best.

A decent set would be circa £40-£50 odd.

Hope some of the above helps.

Dont forget you can only jump start from another 24V system plus be careful as the batterries have a habit of exploding.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, it is all very useful. we have an isolater switch, and new batteries, but for some reason it doesn't work and the batteries run down in a couple of weeks. It always starts first go when its jumped. Our car jump leads don't work but the mechanic starts it from his fairly small van. Im hoping I can start it from my 4x4.
