Hi , lorry/mot people … do you think this crack on the front mirror that looks down at the front of the lorry would fail a mot ? It’s been there since the last mot and they didn’t flag it but I’ve take it to iveco for it’s pre mot and they said it’s borderline , but are quoting £400 including vat for a new one ?
Not sure if they are just looking to make some money..

Yes, that's borderline.
If you don't want to take a chance, then measure the glass and go online to auto factors. You'll find a replacement glass which you can securely stick over the top as a short/long term measure. Should be under 20 quid delivered.
Just Google' replacement mirror glass for X year Iveco, Y model'.

Main dealer prices for parts have gone through the roof! OH bought a little part from Scania last week and it was well over £100 for essentially a rubber washer!

I’d ask them to remove it and get your own glass to stick on afterwards.

Looking at the tester’s manual it would be a minor deficiency, i.e. not a fail. Do you run your lorry under an Operator’s licence? If so, don’t risk it, get it repaired. If not it would be worth the risk.
