Lorry partitions - plastic/rubber needed?

I bought a lorry recently and decided to get the full length partitions cut in half - so the horses are just separated at body level - rather than full length (Does that make sense?)...

So if you have half partitions like I now do - should i get some rubber or something to hang down from the partitions - giving a little bit more separation/ protection, from catching another horses legs?

I'm not sure I've expalined that very well

the modern trailers have rubber down from top of leg length. I think I would rather have something there rather than nothing.

yes - I've seen it in some lorries - but not in all - which is why am wondering...

mine has rubber hanging... def worth it if you are carrying more than one horse to stop them treading on one another.

BIt confused though as to how your partitions have been cut in half.

do you mean how I managed to get it done - or how it looks now, compared to before?

This is sort of what I mean:

Where I drew the yellow line is the bit that was cut off - then they welded the metal bar at the bottom, to the wood - so it is still all encased by metal... so hard to explain!

out of interest, why did you have that done? i was under the impression it is best for it to be solid so that legs do not get tangled up etc!

because one of our horses likes to spread out and he didn't travel well in this lorry - but is fine in another one at the yard which only has half partitions. So we decided to cut them - which has solved the problem...

My hubby builds them Mine has got a pad at the top and a rubber skirt, Trailers have them too. WHB do them and all your horsebox bits!

I just had a look at their website - lots of stuff! I can feel a spending spree coming on

one small question though... how do I attach the matting

I have the dangley rubber on my partitions but it is starting to wear away and i need to replace it but i want clear not black... does anyone know where i can get this from?

clear rubber is pretty expensive ( we use it on our lorries) it can be bought in pre cut widths from hartford commercial.

I did exactly the same to my trailer partition so the horses could spread their legs more and to reduce the weight so I could remove it easily.

The guy who did mine welded a length of metal about 4cm wide to the underside of the 'new' bottom of the partition. He drilled holes in it and gave me another length of the same to bolt on over the rubber skirt. I never got round to fitting the rubber but I generally only travel one horse.

He put some carpet door runner either side of it and screwed it to the partition. You can buy it in long lengths. Hope it helps

We get our rubber from machine mart - it comes on a roll and you have to cut it to size but it is sooooooo much cheaper than going to a horsey place.

Not only does it allow the horses to spread out a bit more, it stops sloopy poop being splashed everywhere!! Oh, the joys!!
