Lorry Plating - Recommendations for garages nr Worthing, West Sussex?

Any recommendations for places to take a 5.5T lorry for servicing/plating around and about nr Worthing, West Sussex? I know of Tullets, but any other recommendations?

Also - our normal mechanic who does our cars was going to sort the lorry out for us with the plating, but he is now saying that he can't do it (he's only a small time private mechanic), because it has to be a registered commerical mechanic (or something sorry its my sister's lorry, so I'm not completely clear on details).

I thought that anyone could take the lorry to the plating - certainly my friend took hers herself a few years ago - has it changed or is the information wrong?

You have to take it to your local HGV test centre, ordinary MOT garages don't do lorries

I would use Tulletts if I was you - I have been using them for 15 years or more and they are excellent, have never had a problem with them. I think there is also somewhere on the industrial estate in Lancing that does platings as well, but I would go to Tulletts. Only lorries up to 3.5 tonne can be done by a "normal" mechanic as these come under MOT's whereas platings are different.

Thanks everyone, particularly for the test centre list, as I looked for that and couldn't find it!

Sorry I didn't make my message clear originally. I know that the lorry has to go to a special test centre (we have one round the road from where I work), it was more garages that could take the lorry, check it over and present it for the test.

Also clarification on whether anyone can take it for the test, as my friend definitely took hers herself a few years ago, but my mechanic seems to think it has to be a specialist mechanic that takes it now (maybe he just doesn't want to do it!!

)

Plus the test centre has a 6 week wait at the moment for slots, so think we will probably try Tullets and see if they have any pre-booked slots it can get in to more quickly (I know my friend never had a problem or long wait when using Tullets).

You can often get cancellations if you ring that morning.

Pretty sure anyone can take the lorry for test.
