Lorry Problems - what to do?

I bought a lorry 18 months ago and have had constant problems with it - they paid for the problems for the first 6 months then it was down to me

I have continued to tell the problems with the lorry when they have happened - today i get a call as i now have a diesel leak that will cost 2k !!!!

With everything that has gone wrong this has finally pushed me over the edge?

What should i do??
 
Oh God sounds really sh!t. Did you buy it from a dealer was it second hand or new??

I know nothing about lorries etc but I know a far amount about garages and cars!

Yep it is !!

Bought direct from the dealer it was a brand new conversion 18 months ago !!

I didnt mind the odd thing going but now i think back its been ridiculous !!!
 
Stacey - would you mind PM'ing me who you bought it from. I had a lorry built in January last year and had loads of problems with it in the first 6 months, I have to say since then it has been fine - but just curious to see if it is the same people!
 
Hmmm is this work being done at the dealer or else where? I'd be tempted to tell the dealer you are not at all happy, understand about wear and tear etc but this not acdeptable and you have contacted a large equestrain publication that are very interested in the story......... My best bet I'm affraid if they aren't being pverly helpful

do you think i should contact the trading standards act as this is ridiculous !!

Lorry is going to my local garage as the people who built it are 4 hours away !
 
I would contact Trading Standards about this, have all your bills, problems & dates to hand & hopefully they will be able to give you some good advice. The advice will cost you nothing & hopefully will help you get satisfaction from the lorry builder.

I had a lorry converted over the winter and have had 3 big problems with it within the last 3 months, and have a sneaking suspicion we might be talking about the same guys. COuld you PM me your builder??

Did you have the chasis AA checked before you bought it? Did anyone look at it for you?

I think 18 months on you are going to find it hard to prove it was the dealers fault that these problems have happened.

Are you sure that the garage fixing it aren't ripping you off? £2k to fix a diesel leak sounds expensive, you might be better off buying a new chassis, whats wrong with it?
 
I'm having problems, but mine is with the promises of "it'll be ready next week"

Still not got my lorry and my faith in them is diminishing rapidly. Have considered pulling the plug on it as if they are like this now, i haven't got a cat in hells chance of getting anything done if something does happen.

Would you mind Pm ing me who you are using, so if i do cancel i don't end up at you builders please!
 
Was the chassis brand new or converted - tbh if not a brand new chassis, even if AA checked I think you will be doing well to prove any mechanical problems are down to the coachbuilder - even brand new chassis' can go wrong - completely different if lorry body or fittings are falling apart and they made them

Might be barking up the wrong tree as I've never had a lorry 'built' - is there anything in writing regarding the chassis on the warranty?

I ahve already asked the garage for everthing which they are doing for me !!!

The problem is builders buy cheap lorries to convert or build horse boxes out of. A fresh coat of paint and new seats and mats and the Horse Joe public think great. You look at the back for the horses and the living and ignore the main part ,the chassis. always have a chassis checked as that's the bit that will cost you your hard earned.
£2k for a leak seems a very high price. You need to find a descent lorry grease monkey who you can trust. Do you know anyone who works for a local company that has lorries and ask who they use to service there lorries.
 
I bought a brand new conversion last year. The chassis is a 2001 plate. The convertor was a professional horsebox company and I gave him my budget and he built me a basic box. He let me look over and drive the chassis before he started to build on it for what use that was as Im clueless and did tell me when I picked up the finished box that his work was guaranteed for 12 miths. That didnt include the chassis though. I asked for 12 mths plate on it and it failed on a couple of things which he did pay for but then it had an air leak straight away and I had to pay for that to be put right. Theres been a couple of other things too since.
Im afraid I dont think its up to him to repair it now.
I agree that they buy the cheapest chassis they can to make more profit. I have the reciept for my chassis as I had to pay for that straight away with the balance on completion which Im told by another builder is quite normal to do and theres no way it cost as much as I was charged. I was pretty much done on the whole thing and as a first time wagon owner would definately do things differently next time I bought one.
