Lorry Question

Can't find the answer on the web so thought I'd ask the lovely people of HHO..

Does any lorry over the weight of 3.5 ton require plating, or is it not till a lorry reaches 7.5 ton? I know there's the odd 5 - 6 ton around and wondered if these required plating too? Thanks in advance.

Anything over 3.5t needs plating, below that is just an MOT

3.5 tonnes dont need plating, just a regular MOT. I *think* anything over 3.5 tonnes needs plating but I stand to be corrected!

Plating is not the same as testing. A vehicle is usually plated once and you get the certificate which should be fixed in the cab. If the lorry is changed with a new back etc it will need replating. It will however need a yearly MOT which is more stringent than a car MOT

Yes technically they have a yearly MOT not a plating but that's what people tend to call it.
