My ramp needs redoing, as it's quite steep am looking for a more non-slip surface than I have now (which is grey industrial carpet stuff, with battens).

Any suggestions?

Also it is wood backed on a tubular metal frame, is wood the best thing to replace it with or is it worth looking at something else?

Not looking to spend too much as it's a J. If it lasts 2-3 years more that'll be fine.

Hot chocolate and cointreau for suggestions (bit early but still :-))

You really need to take it to a horse box repair company for this sort of thing.

Ramps are not only for the safety of the horse to exit and enter the horse lorry but also part of the lorry structure.

I would enlist the help of David Gazeley at Gazeley Horsebox Repairs over at Newmarket.

Good luck

We did the ramp on my old lorry ourselves and lined it with a thin aluminium sheet, then put thick marine ply on top, with ramp carpet matting and aluminium strips. we bought the matting and the strips from "Horseboxbits" online and got the other materials from a DIY store.

You could replace carpet with ribbed rubber but be very careful as rubber will weigh far more than the carpet which will then probably require uprated ramp springs. It may be easier (and cheaper) to add additional batterns for extra grip.
I used wood on metal frame when I replaced the ramp on our 7.5t. Ramp on our 3.5t is all wood (glassonite).
