So sorry for your loss xx
Ive always had another horse when I’ve lost one, and having that to focus on and a routine to still follow, has helped me massively.
I’ve never got over losing Diva, she was my soul mate, but I threw myself into my two other mares and it helped me mentally to have that.

You have done an amazing job to get your horse to such a great age, you have done all you can for him and nothing can take this away from you.

Equally nothing can now bring him back so it doesn’t affect him whatever you do. If it brings you some joy, peace or happiness to have another horse in your life and especially if it helps a rescue to have a better life then there are 2 winners and no losers. It doesn’t diminish your love for your other horse at all so don’t beat yourself up if something else makes you smile or distracts from your sadness.

I lost a horse last year. I had to get another quickly as it left my remaining horse on his own so there was more than myself to think about, but it has helped me also.

Similarly, I still miss my NF mare who i had from 4 - 29 yrs. However, having bought the coloured mare not that long before, and putting her in foal, I did have plenty to think about horsewise.
