Offically caught out today and feel like I have been run over! I have spent best of 8 weeks on my new boy predominantly hacking him to build up his fitness and strength. Normally I would mix up the work and had assumed hacking both him and my mare would keep me going.
Not a chance. I have only taken him in for a couple of short sessions (20 mins) in the school, and have now upped the anti now. I took him out to play with small coloured jumps at the riding club field last weekend (good lad) and then first time out XC schooling yesterday at Tweseldown. He was brilliant fun and up for it and we finished over some intro fences. Then I had deemed we were ready for a flat lesson today (first one)
Well he was up for it, I was not. I managed 40 minutes and am now shattered. I can't believe how much my riding fitness has slipped in such a relatively short time as my old boy was in proper full work before he went off to his new home. Back to the grind stone tomorrow!
(but really loved loved my time out XC schooling. Still smiling!)
