My cob mare has really lost weight this winter, she is very ribby and the weight tape has shown what she has lost weight. She is not being exercised much ATM either. What would you recommend? Is their a particular feed or conditioning mix that you would recommend?

How old is the mare and what feeding regime on at the moment? Does she have access to good quality hay all the time? Is she on a proper worm programme and have her teeth been done recently? Does she normally drop weight in winter?

She is 11, and currently eating 1 scoop of speedibeet, 2 scoops of alfa a and a multivitamin, she grazes all day and we give her half a bale-a bale of hay a day, we don't know if it is normal because we have only owned her since May, she was wormed in September, and we have sent of for another worm count
Thanks

What size are your scoops - are they the big round Stubbs type like this:

Does she eat all the hay you give her? If so increase the amount of hay until there is a little left in the morning. Plenty of good quality forage is the best and usually the cheapest way to get weight on. Have you wormed for tapeworm this autumn (tapeworm infestation won't show on a worm count) - if not I would worm for tapeworm now. Worth getting her teeth checked too, because if her teeth are sharp she won't be able to chew her hay effectively and will lose weight. Do you feed her twice a day? If not, I would suggest doing that, and adding some form of oil too, perhaps in the form of micronized linseed.
