I recently noticed my PBA has loss of hair (thinning) around the eyes, ears, and on the underside of her neck. Shes turned out with two other horses 24/7 and neither of them have any of the same signs. She has recently moved yards but moved along with my other two and hasnt had any contact with another horse the only thing that is different is them moving into a field next door to sheep.
The first thing that comes to mind is mites, as she has quite a flaky mane and tail but no signs of rubbing. I have the vet coming to do a vaccination next week, so I could get her to have a look at it for me but would like everyone elses advice before she comes out.

Thanks in advance

Mites and lice really. You could pick up a wash from the vets which should treat any of those parasites. Other than that you are looking at an allergy, but diagnosis of those is very difficult and very few labs do tests specifically for horses, plus youd need to know what to narrow it down to really as to carry out 60+ tests would cost a fortune. Best job is to treat for lice/mites first (or ask your vet who might do a skin scraping).
