Can someone clear this up for me please? If someone has claimed LOU on their horse does it get branded and then they can no longer compete or sell it even if it then comes sound?

My understanding is that the horse would be branded but there is nothing to stop the horse being sold/competed.

Yes horse is freezemarked with an L in a circle and that's it really.

No restrictions on it's future use although insuring it again is/would be tricky.

My mare has the LOU brand which is an L inside a circle. I compete her at BD and unaffliated SJ. I think with BSJA you need a vet to say it is sound to compete.

The brand makes it harder to sell and also affects insurance

Also if horse doesn't have a previous freeze-mark it has to be given one along with the L brand so it can be correctly identified.

Being Microchipped is not good enough. Poor old Mac got to 15 and the got branded. I felt really guilty about it but he couldn't care less. Even better the way the brand has come out he's now Mr Bond

Suits him perfectly.
