Why is it that they always cast a blinkin shoe just before Christmas.
A couple of years ago my lad lost a front, just about exatcly this time of year. Our farrier had finished for Christmas (was already on holiday), and in the end we had to trailer H and his found shoe about 20 miles to a farriers yard. Lovelly chap, gave us coffee while his apprentice straightened and refitted the shoe.
Two days ago, on our way back from a hack, my OH's mare started to clank, or at least one of her back shoes did. Before we got home I had to pick her foot up and ease the shoe off, as it was in danger of twisting. Very luckily, one of our friends had the farrier coming the next morning, whew! Sorted.
This morning, picking out H's feet, just prior to tacking up. Last foot, near front...NO SHOE As luck would have it, our farrier is in the area tomorrow.
Why why why why do they always lose a bleddy shoe at this time of year, is it some sort of tradition?
