Despite faithfully keeping hold of my ponies' passports including through about four house moves, I seem to have put them in a 'safe place' in my current (and permenant) residence.. so safe I cannot find the damn things!

It seems relatively simple to get hold of replacement passports, please correct me if the following is wrong..

- For Rocky (the ex-racehorse) who is an Irish TB, the vet needs to come out and fill out a markings form, find his microchip number and then complete the weatherbys duplicate passport form. The only bit I'm confused about is whether he needs a racing passport or a non-racing passport. He is retired from any kind of ridden work so assume the non-racing (and cheaper :D) alternative would be adequate. The only complication was that we are not on the passport as registered owners as we couldn't find a section that detailed who his owners were!

- For Tia (the godknowswhat), we bought her without a passport and got her an ID passport from weatherbys. This, it seems, makes it very simple for us to get her a duplicate. Just complete the form (no markings required!) and job done.

What I can't establish is where I stand re: vaccinations. Tia had her 'first' set of vaccinations with the same vet we still use. They have vaccinated her every year, without fail. This is on their records I presume. Would they transfer this information across onto her 'new' passport? She competes at riding club/low BE and they are stringent about vaccs being in order.. Please someone give me a ray of hope and tell me my vets would be able to do this and that I don't have to shell out for a whole new set of vaccinations!

Rocky has been with said vets practice for over 2 years. As he is retired, I'm happy for him to just have his booster every year and am not too fussed how 'correct' the paperwork is so not such a worry!

Cookies and tea for anyone who might possibly be able to help! Kicking myself for losing the passports, held onto T's for six years and pretty much bang on the day I decide to compete again, I can't find the relevant paperwork. :(

Yes they should transcribe the vaccinations no bother, we used to do it all the time :)

Am amazed you can't just get duplicate passports issued (after all they're not proof of ownership), seems madness to have to go through any of the form filling again  Have you phoned and spoken to both PIOs?

Think you may have to restart the vaccinations.
My pony was a couple of months over between two when I got him vetted when I bought him and I had to restart them in order to compete :(
Hope knowledgeable folkes above are correct though! Save you a lot of trouble.

This. youd need replacement passports issued, not whole new ones issued with the whole starting from scratch rigmarole

Yes, you should be able to get your vet to fill in the vaccs pages from the records :)

Thanks so much for the quick replies!

Rhino, my inconclusive house search only began this evening so have just referred to weatherbys website which provided the info I posted (with all the forms) . Have to admit I too thought that getting a vet out to redo a markings form for Rocks - who is now an expensive lawnmover - was a little excessive. I shall ring them first thing Monday to clarify.

Cheeryplatypus (great name :D) - both horses are up to date with their vaccs, no overlap or anything there!

Looks like I'm in luck if the vets happily transfer over the details :) sounds daft but will they charge?!

Thanks again for all your help!

"Duplicate Passports
In order to apply for a duplicate passport for a non-racing animal please download, complete and return the form below with a set of veterinary markings (including the scanned microchip number if present) and the relevant fee"

From Weatherbys site.. this is just in reference to the ex-racer, not the bog pony! She just needs one form sending off!

Thanks for the info on the vaccinations, just what I wanted to hear.

We never did, it's a 2 minute job that any vet can do. Either take in if the surgery is local and you know a vet is about, or post in with an SAE. If you have a vet out they can probably get the dates over the phone from the computer system and fill it out then and there.

Don't panic :)

Thanks so much, got myself all in a tizz thinking I'd need to restart the course of injections. Happy to pay an admin charge, it has got to be less than starting fresh but even better news if they'll quickly do it foc. Will give them a call come Monday too, thanks for all the advice! :D

Make sure your Passports are noted as replacements, it is illegal to get none duplicate replacements. Then drop them off to your vet who can re enter from his records. Absolutely no need to re start/do your vaccinations.:)
