i know this really isnt a cat sort of forum but i know how u lot come up with good ideas so here goes...

my mum adopted 2 cats yesterday from the RSPCA within a few hours the mum escaped through a window, shes been back in the garden a few times but everytime u get near her she does a runner.

Shes now been missing all night :( and her kitten isnt eating :( we were hoping he'd starting calling for her and she might hear him and come back but he wont make a sound. :(

we asked neighbours to look out for her and searched out the back of the house, what else can we do to try and find her?? :(

Sounds like a nightmare, but the mother may still be hanging around in the area because of her kitten. If I were you I would try leaving food out in the garden for her and try to monitor it to see who's eating it. In time, with any luck, she may become tamer and come back in the house.

In the meantime you could put posters up asking people to contact you if they see her.

Good luck.

If you contact the cats protection league or the rspca as that is where she came from, they should have cat traps that you can borrow; you just bait them with food and leave in the garden. Sounds as if that is going to be the only way to get near her if she is frightened. I know people who have used these successfully in the past. Knowing my luck I'd probably catch all the neighbourhood cats first though!

lol thanks thats such a good idea!! i didnt know they would help, i thought they would be angry we lost her after not even having her a day!! im gonna get my mum on the phone asap! cheers

I'm glad you've found her! Once you've caught her then I suggest making sure she stays locked in for a few days, don't pester her too much but make sure she is well fed and watered. Then eventually you just have to go for it, open the door and hope for the best really. They will come back 99% of the time if they've had a few days to settle in, especially if there are 2 of them.

oh dont worry she wont be going anywhere for a few days!! doors and windows bolted shut!!
thanks for your help!

I'd not let the cat out for a couple of weeks if I was you, not sure a few days is long enough. When we first cats or kittens out for the first time we put a harness and lead on at first and walked round with them and let them look at things for a couple of times before letting them off.

i cant believe it, my mum just phoned me in tears!
after 29 hours the cat just ran through the door!! all doors and windows are firmly shut! lol at least she knows where home is, so happy mum and kitten are safe ay home together again!
thanks fo your help and good luck! :D

I read the first line of your post and my heart dropped- thought it was going to be bad news then.

So glad she's come back :D Now we just need pictures of the naughty cat! Hope she looked suitably ashamed?

I'm so relieved your cat is back. It's such a horrible feeling when they go missing isn't it?

We lost 3 in quick succession when living abroad. We were 99% sure they were got by coyotes :(:(:(

I know there are no coyotes here, but I wouldn't have posted this if yours hadn't returned safely ...... :)
