Had a bugger of a week - one of our yearlings went slightly lame a few days ago and we noticed a lump on his stifle joint - thought he must of been kicked and it was a bit swollen. Got vet out and it turns out he has dislocated his knee and his knee cap has pinged off somewhere up into his groin - vet has never seen one do it before as it would take a 1 in a million kick at just the right angle - sods law!!! Anyway he's off to chat to an orthopedic specialist on Monday, he took x-rays but it's a very difficult joint to x-ray as there is so much horse for the x-rays to pass through - anyway might give us a vague idea where his knee cap has gone!!
Has anyone ever had experience of a dislocated stifle and what was the prognosis and treatment - I'm not holding my breath he does have age on his side but I think he will never be more than a happy hacker if it is fixable the vet said it may need surgery - and it sods law we have had a lady interested in him so we've told her he's now a no go!!!!
