my pony pulled a shoe off last night, somewhere in the muddy field. luckily there is no damage to his hoof, its jst literally pulled straight out. not sure when my farrier can come at the moment. would it be ok to ride him in our grass schooling paddock? i cant hack out till my kids are back to school anyway, but would still like to be able to do a bit with him.

personally i wouldnt ride then however thats just me. Walk around the grass shouldnt do any damage but wouldnt advise anything heavy

It is very dependant on your horse your field to be honest.

Some horses (those that are thin soled/liable to bruising/unbalanced) no I wouldn't ride especially on grass with a front shoe missing. The horse will have to compensate for the feet moving different amounts on the surface especially if slippery especially if not well balanced.

If you had an arena to ride on with an artificial surface wouldn't think twice about riding most horses. If its only going to be a day until your farrier can come personally I would leave it.

Depends on your horse and the ground, and if i did i wouldn't do much at all, just abit of walk and trot. my TB was always pulling his front shoes off, i didn't ride him then as he was too uneven

If this means he now only has one shoe, could you get that off, so that he is unshod all round?
If not then no, don't ride, you could be causing damage to ligaments etc. You wouldn't carry on walking if the heel came off your own shoe, would you?
