My cob has had a very bad attack 2 weeks ago, - emergency vet needed and antibs and ventopulmin given - seemed to sort it out but it resurfaced a couple of days ago so hes on double dose of anti bs now and vp again!
I dont know if its me (being more aware of coughing related posts) but there does seem to be a lot of horse cough problems this year!

Do you agree, or is it just me - if so why??????

Yes! My boy usually has very mild COPD which is fairly easy to manage. This year he's awful. Vet out , ventipulmin, now he's out as much as poss

I'm on a big Livery yard and a few including my boy wre coughing few weeks ago, cleared up after a week or so but a few others have it now.

I have to say (touch wood) that my girl has only coughed once this winter (in my hearing) and that was when I took her out of the barn into crisp, cold air.

I have given her Naf Ventilator this winter though.

oo ty janette - i shall google that, never heard of it

edit - just googled and cannot find it - do you have a link ?

Yes my big beastie has been coughing this winter though due to a change of yard it's the first time she has been fed their hay and the first time she has been on hay not haylege over winter.

I'm now steaming her hay in a bin using a kettle and this seems to be helping though I'm looking into using a wallpaper steamer for more steam!

Yeah - on a large yard, and 3 have had it - mines included which resulted also in 2ndry infection in lungs, so antibiotics, then week later after course finished got worse, so now on ventipulmin and sputlosim (sp sorry), other 2 now fine - trust my mammoth to be the worst, have heard 2 others on yard also cough.
Vets have said a large number of yards have same issue - weather related.

sigh.....
5 vet visits in 2012 already!!!
