Love sick gelding....

Is there any such thing as medicine for a “love sick” gelding.

if he’s turned out with/stabled next to a mare he instantly falls in love. If she’s taken away from him he’s not a happy bunny.

he’s not a rig and I’ve tried Agnus castus, which doesn’t do much.

Do you know his castration history? If not may be worth running an anti mullerian hormone test to check there is no testicular tissue still. Also is there a chance he was cut later on in life so kept some coltish behaviours?

Are the mares always the same colour? I've heard of geldings behaving like this with mares the colour their mother was.

hes been tested, he’s not a rig. He doesn’t act like a late cut either (I’ve had one of those as well!)

doesn’t matter what colour they are, he likes them all!

My black Dales gelding would get fixated on grey mares which was the colour of his dam. Surprising how many endurance riders rode grey Arab mares. Fortunately endurance riders and their horses are a very tolerant bunch and don’t mind who rides with them.

My old boy was fixated on the only mare at my last yard. He was stabled next to her and out in field with her and two other geldings. He was a right pita to handle and ride so I had to have him separated to a gelding only paddock and move his stable. He also didn’t like that yard so I wonder if that had something to do with it as he became very insecure. He’s always been a bit funny with some mares and has displayed unwanted behaviour such as lunging over the fence and even trying to grab a neck when out hacking with one particular mare. Younger horse wasn’t cut until 4 going on 5 and hadn’t shown any stallion like behaviour.
