Had a horrible job at work last night. An elderly gent had died in his home and wasn't discovered for three days, during this time his slightly aged Corgi had lain by his side :-(. Family were contacted and duly arrived but nobody wanted the poor dog and it was looking increasingly likely that he was going to the kennels with what I would imagine would be a sad outcome.

Fortunately one of our force control room workers heard the plight, had lost her old corgi a month previously, called the family and they agreed for her to home him :-). The old boy spent a couple of hours at the station then went off to be treated like royalty. The controller new nothing about this dog, like me he yanked at her heart strings. He will have a lovely home for his old age and he has filled a gap in her life.

Pointless post but brightened my day knowing he will be loved.

That is a lovely story. One of the saddest things I've ever seen was at at RSPCA kennel. They had taken in two very elderly dogs whose owner had died. The dogs were well past their best and lay crouched together in a basket, shivering with fear. They'd probably never been in a kennel before and they were terrified. I think it would have been kinder to have had them PTS in their own home.

Yeh I hate to think of old dogs in kennels and agree in many cases pts would be kinder. I don't know if anyone remembers the story about the blind great dane and her "guide dog", another dane. These were rehomed together and then apparently the blind dog kept attacking her friend. She is now back at the Dogs Trust and is again looking for a home, how confused must this poor girl be, I really feel it would be kinder to put her to sleep.:(

I too agree, hate to repeat myself but there was a story in the news about a collie who is scared of pretty much everything and is so stressed and eats herself so badly she has to wear boots on her feet. But they think she will get a 'forever home' and her story is being publicised before the hundreds of dogs they must have with no issues whatsoever, the poor girl sounds under so much mental pressure :(

Some dogs just were not meant for this world, harsh as that sounds.
Totally agree that physically healthy does not mean mentally healthy.
