Low grade pain

Hi,

If a horse was in low grade pain most of the time could this be a reason for them not to hold condition well?

Not exactly poor but on the slimmer side and not really gaining any weight even though being fed well. Teeth are OK.

Yes it can.
Do you have any suspicions as to what’s wrong?

Yes, definitely. The horse is a constant state of stress due to the pain, which leads to loss of condition, heightened risk of ulcers etc etc.

Do you have an idea of what might be wrong?

Hello,

Thank you for the replies, I suspect just old age/arthritis.
It's not my horse but 1 of an acquaintance, it's not putting on/holding its weight as well as normal and I feel pain(fairly mild but pretty constant) could be a factor but they dismiss it.
