As per the title really, but I didn't think I would fit It all into the title :)

I am beating myself up again about not riding enough so wondered what others did - the horse is a lightweight 'sports cob' so not the quickest to get fit....

Six or seven times a week, but thats just because thats what I choose to do - if a horse is sound, then ride it! :)

But in answer to your question, I think you could get away with four or five times a week, once it was up to fitness.

I ride 4/5 times a week depending on shift work so I try to make every session work. I try to make sure my hacks are decent length (6 miles plus) over varied terrain and speed.

Same here. I think if you want to be competitive with a cob or native you need to have them very fit. I have a WB now but he has a cob brain and a fairly laid back attitude to life so he's in the same regime as my natives.

Do you mean rider or horse? I ride 3/4 times a week, not as much as I'd like but I need to give time to my non horsey life too. Horse however gets ridden 6 times a week generally. He's a bit of a Diesel engine so he doesn't get fit easily or quickly but we haven't really started competing yet so am hoping this last push for 1/2 months will help us both out!

anything from 3-7 times a week. My sharer or myself ride him as often as possible, but sometimes things just don't work out. I think 3/4 times a week is enough to maintain fitness, so it's not too much of a big deal. Ideally I like to ride 6 days, but life happens and it's not always possible, don't stress about it too much, if horse is happy and coping with what you want him to do then you're riding enough :)

I'm eventing at 80 cm. I also do a bit of showjumping. I ride him 4 times a week, 5 if we are competing on the weekend. He's quite fit and he is the type that does better when he isn't exercised everyday. However he is out 24/7 and is a lighter build than your horse.

I'm unaff and BRC eventing at 90. Cob lives out 24/7 so is always moving. I d do 3-4 short but fast hacks (45 min ish) + 1 long (2-3 hrs) each week. I school every 2 weeks as it's not our thing. Time faults are a problem sometimes but we still qualified for the BRC nationals at 90 as individuals so he's clearly fit enough to be competitive at amateur level. We take each phase as it comes and enjoy it.

My young mare went round unaff 70 much less fit. But she was fine. We took it easy but many competitors took it easier. Some were trotting the XC looked like they were enjoying a hack!

Thanks for all the replies they are very much appreciated - actually I can stop beating myself up quite so much as we average 4-5 times a week - more 4 than 5 recently as work has been manic, but not as bad as I'd feared. Phew! :)

Only 3 or 4 times for me, sometimes even 2. She's absolutely fine with that (but do plenty when we do ride). She is mainly TB so quite athletic and lives out.
