My horse had two bouts of serious lymphangitis at the beginning of the year & after some crazy behaviour, we took him off all hard feed & he was getting ad lib hay. The vet mentioned about a low protein diet, but was happy for him to still get the yard diet (I'm on full livery) of course mix & beet pulp. And I have yet to find much online or in books linking lymphangitis to diet.
I put him back on a smaller amount of the feed in order to keep him sane & help him put back on weight as I felt he lost too much. I also added in Bailey No 1 to his feed rations cause I read it was great for condition, he also gets Rapeseed Oil (and his other supplements!!) While he is shiny & healthy looking & in great form, lots of energy, we still compete at RC etc, I still wish he would put on more weight.
I am restricted because I cannot afford to take him completely off what the yard feed him & provide my own feed but I'm happy to get something (like the Baileys) that I can afford & add into his current ration.
I would love to put him on Bluegrass Equijewel cause I've read & seen the results of other people using it but its 13% protein. I would consider 10% low protein, do you think 13% would be too high or considering you only feed a small amount, would it be ok?
