I'm considering loaning a horse - Shes a really lovely mare - bit spooky but nothing i can't handle - the owner has advised me that she has previously had low ringbone but has been back in regular work for quite a while without any problems whatsoever.

I've never had any experience of low ringbone, so could anyone advise me on this?

Could it become a problem again?
Could she potentially go lame in the future?
etc etc....

Thanks

Has the owner provided you with more information on the horses individual case of lower ringbone, for example did they have radiographic scans taken (what it an accurate diagnosis) have they mentioned at all the past treatment or going treatment for that matter? does the horse have any confirmation issues, is the horse old or possibly had a hard life? to be honest if your loaning, (plenty more about) I'd stay clear, its very possible the horse will be lame on and off.

My experience of low ringbone (which is quite limited admittedly) is that it can be managed but not vastly improved. As Kenzo has said, it can be caused by poor conformation, lots of roadwork etc as it was in the cases I have seen so there could be other problems lurking.

It is an ongoing condition so depending on what you want to do with her, you need to think carefully before taking her on.
