Part 2 wont be coming to you till March 21st now.. I signed up for a 2 day clinic, (1st day in the arean, second day on the xc) and the second day was canceled, as SLM didn't want the course being cut-up after all this rain... (i've now been put into the oneday clinic at Pontispool instead).

Anyway, i took two horses, but both lessons were pretty much the same, she did the same exercises with both groups, and both groups made the same mistakes..

She never tried to change my riding, but by building really tricky lines to fences, you had to change the way you rode to get there.. first off we were jumping about 1ft no higher, and we had to trot into it, land in trot, trot away to the next fence.. it was amazing how many people couldn't do it (me included on my second horse).. also there were only 4 normal SJ width fences, the rest were all 'skinny' and one arrowhead.. one of the skinnies was only about 2ft wide, i've never aimed at something so narrow!!

Squeaky was a little star!!!! he really tried for once!! he's never done arrowheads/skinnies and was jumping them as straight as anything, including the arrowhead the wrong way, ie with the arms going away from you!!

It was only the 3rd time i've jumped Ernie, so we came out a bit green together, but by the middle of the lesson you wouldn't believe some of the lines she was building, so it made me actually sit there and ride him! when i did, that horse answered every time!! yes i made a fair few cock-ups!! but as she said, better to make them here than at a comp.!!
At the end of this lesson, she said that she could really see us starting to gel

and that she thought he liked a girl on him

haha (i was very worried about being good enough to ride him, and i told her so at the start of the lesson, so to be told that at the end made my day).

I'm the tightest person i know with money (short arms/deep pockets) and i nearly had a heartattack writing out the cheque.. but by the end of the day (with the thought of the second day still to come) i can say it was the best money i've ever spent!!!!!!!
This maybe a little OTT to some, but i now have Lucinda up there as gods gift to training!! everything she said made so much sense.. she never put anyone down or told them they were doing it wrong, but encouraged them! as i said above, the way she built the excersises showed you if you were doing it wrong or not! (ie ride badly, and you woudn't be able to do it).

So, really looking forwards to the next one!! although it's going to be a VERY busy week!!! as i'll have Aldon on the Sat, LG clinic at Pontispool on the Wed, and the Gatcombe on the Sunday!! pro-plus needed maybe?

Particularly if you can replicate some of the fences at home so that you can work through your own problems.

Yeah, i've just done something like it again today with another horse

She didn't really plan anything, but rather plonk random fences in random places, then expect you to jump them in an even more random order.. she also never measured anything out, so the distance was just whatever you made it!

WOW sounds such a brilliant clinic before the begining of the season. YAY well done Squeaky! I am so pleased hes growing up and turning out to be the super star horse you always knew he would be
smile.gif

Also superb to hear Ernie and you are gelling, about time you had a horse put you on the map! and I think Ernie and Squeaky as back up will do this. Now FFS get and enter Gatcombe!! Ive got grooms dutes

Sounds like a great day....and with more to come too next month. I am not jealous at all, I wish EI would ask her to come over here .

What an excellent report, I feel really envious we didn't book on it, but one of the cottage tenants got way behind with their rent and moved on owing money, and I didn't dare spend on anything as expensive as that when I had vets' bills and utility ones to pay (choice, LG clinic or electricity...no choice really)
Are there still spaces on the Pontispool one?
I think you will be fine on Ernie, it's the mental thing you have to fix more than your riding, just because someone well known has ridden him doesn't mean you aren't as good as him: you may even turn out better!
We will be going to Winkleigh for a play just as soon as it opens, Layla has her first HT at Pontispool and C plans a gentle trot round the same as she did with Monty.
If you fancy sharing W give us a ring or pm..
Not long now to the start of the season, Bath and West here we come... (planning on taking the calor gas heater, lots of warm clothes and pleny of hot drinks, as last year at Bicton it was like Antarctica.....

How fab - will make sure I save up some money for one. So cross everywhere is closed at the moment for XC schooling - damn this weather!

Well done, I glad it was good, always a worry it won't be. So who is Ernie?

LEC - BTW Rosamund Green has been open this year, wasn't this weekend but has been previously

Rosamund Green isn't open at the mo. as it was a place they tried to re-route the LG clinic to, and they were shut (that was Thurs just been)..

There's a very long story that goes with Ernie, and will tell all sometime soon/after our first event! (don't want to tempt fate, as i still don't count the ride as mine)

Lec/HH/CCJ, am deffo up for a xc schooling session somewhere sometime, not sure when or where tho!! hopefully sometime before B&W tho!!!
