Not a huge surprise that her injury has ruled her out of competing this weekend but it is a shame that there's no stand in as was suggested on here in an earlier post.

Hope the leg heals soon.

Thanks for the prompt reply to that Pippa.

Given the fragile nature of horses and the recent experience of the Olympics and injuries, do you not think it may have been prudent to have more than 1 replacement for this event?

I'm not sure I can really comment on decisions by Express Eventing organisers! One for you to put to Stuart Buntine perhaps...

For your info, most of the riders have nominated reserve horses, so if it had been a horse injury it probably wouldn't have been a problem, which perhaps explains why they only had one reserve rider?

Thanks Pippa, although not directly aimed at you, was hoping maybe us lot could discuss it and not expecting you to comment.

If Dirk withdrew because of a horse injury then he obviously didn't have a reserve horse!

Seems a shame that it's possibly the spectators who will miss out, but I guess new events are going to have teething problems. However, with the wealth of knowledge that we have in this country, you'd think we'd be able to get it right.

Somethin for them to consider for next time, if there is a next time!

I am surprised that Pippa Funnell or Zara Phillips are not doing it as both have some horses that might be ideal for this in Ensign and Glenbuck. I guess so many riders have turned away their top horses for the winter and they are not back in work.

It's a shame that Pippa Funnell isn't going.

Can't wait to go there on the Sunday!

I don't suppose then that they're up for, say, WFP taking an extra horse as I think he had one at least in reserve. Although that would give him a minimum 1 in 10 chance of the money and probably rather better than that given his results this year...

Zara's not allowed to ride until Monday. Agree about Pippa, or what about someone like Matt RYan or Andrew Hoy? Plenty of top class riders out there who have missed out - I agree, a longer waitlist next time would be worthwhile. OK they might have to prepare a DtoM test they might never use but I suspect it would be worth it knowing you might get a crack at the 100K - even the last prize of 3K would be better than a kick in the teeth!!

and also as the world class trials were on last monday there are a fair few up and coming brits who had horses in work for that like kitty boggis and harry mead
