This morning my friend and I decided to take the horses for a dawn hack out on the farm. We were near the lake when my horse began spook at something in the bush about 10m ahead. The something had it's back to us and looked like a large, sandy dog. When it turned towards us, we realised it was a caracal, one of the rarest wild cats in Africa. The caracal padded across the path, right in front of us, with not a care in the world, went to the lake and started drinking. My poor mare nearly went into cardiac arrest but luckily was too shocked to move and frighten it. We watched it for a while before it disappeared into the bush. Amazing...

I had to Google this cat as I've never heard of it ... how cool to see it though!

Here's a piccy for anyone like me, who doesn't know what they look like.

Your countryside looks very interesting - I love seeing photos of other parts of the world. Thank you for sharing.

I got married in Cape Town and look forward to going back in the near future. Absolutely adore that part of the world and it's people. You are so lucky to live there.
