Ok, that's probably spelt incorrectly but I'm on the phone!

Is anyone there and/or up to speed? Just heard Nic Wilson and Opposition Buzz have been eliminated, anyone know how, why, where etc? So abnormal for them! :o

The fourth fence so far has caused a total of 5 falls (click on horses name for details)3 horse 2rider .does anyone know what the jump is?

Thanks, hope they're all ok :(

Are there course photos anywhere, be interesting to see what caught them out, he's so clever with his feet normally.

You can follow each horse in the little green area at the top of the leader board link-but it's currently stopped loading-hope its just my computer and that no one has fallen

****** AN has taken the lead, but Zara's in 2nd with less than 2 marks between them :)

AN's also in 6th as the filling in a WFP sandwich who is in 5th and 7th.

Vibes to Emeric George's (France) horse who was taken off to horsepital :(

Sadly P’tite Bombe, the ride of Frenchman Emeric George, was put down after falling at a brush fence in the HSBC Complex (12).

Sad news for Emeric and all of Bombe's connections. Due to FEI TV not broadcasting due to technical problems I only saw the first 15 minutes (3 riders) but the course looked fantastic, reminded me of the big gutsy Burghley's Mark Phillips used to do.

I was so disappointed with Badminton this year and other 3/4* courses in recent years, they are so technical these days, lots of skinnies, loads of corners and real modern style fences that just don't blend in with the natural environment, gone are the old school courses with rider frighteners that needs a big bold hunter type. I know times and styles move on but I don't enjoy watching eventing now as much as I did back in the 80's and 90's.

Well I have to say I much prefer to watch eventing without having to cover my eyes in horror at horses falling and getting injured. I just don't get this macabre hankering for more dangerous, frightening courses. Big and bold, fine, but I for one do not want to watch horse falls.

What is the 4th fence? How is it causing falls? Very unlike Buzz to make a XC mistake.

Hope all are ok

4a was a bright coloured boat into rather black water. Dodi tripped on landing then stood too far off the bank out and turned over at another boat on a bounce distance from the bank. Qwanza jumped in perfectly and just capsized. Neither horse nor rider did anything wrong. I don't know what happened with the others.
It is interesting looking at the still photos of 4a. There is a lot of reflection of the boat and of the grass on the bank beside the fence which could have confused the horses. Once it started raining the problems stopped as there was rippling on the water.

What a shame to trick good confident XC horses into falling. Perhaps a small fountain at the side of the water may prevent this type of fall in the future it would create the ripple that tells the horse it's water. Looks like 4A caused poor Dodi to fall. Shows what a class horse he is in that he nearly managed to save himself.

Another interesting point is that the 3 horse falls were numbers 22, 26 and 28 and the 2 rider falls were 13 and 16.

Free access video is here: http://www.ndr.de/fernsehen/sendungen/sportclub/sportclub4959.html I haven't managed to find any of the footage of problems at 4 yet. But there is a steep hill before it and I would guess the footing might have deteriorated with the weather? Looks pretty miserable during the second half of Zara's ride!

In total there were 7 (out of 49) with problems at 4 yesterday - 5 falls. Seems a really high number of falls for 1 complex...

To my eye the water at 4abc look pretty deep. This might have contributed to horses going down after 4a as it was also a pretty decent fence with a drop.

FEI TV have stated they are not streaming Luhmuhlen today after their issues yesterday with the feed. Great for those who bought a one day pass

Feel so sorry for Emeric George who lost P'tite Bombe yesterday. She was a home bred mare and his only eventer as he's primarily a show jumper. She had completed a number of 3* events and this was her first 4*. RIP little mare.

Thanks for link to German website!
