I have had a 12yr old 16h quite chunky TB x Cob on loan for the last year and he has been sound and healthy the whole time i've had him.
When i got him he had a lump about the size of a 10p or big marble on the inside of his near fore just above the fetlock towards the back of the leg (where you'd expect a windgall). It is hard to the touch (almost feels bony) and doesnt move about hardly at all if you poke it, whether the leg is bent or straight. It has never caused him a problem.
However due to some cr&p management by YO this week he was left out on his own and i think he has kicked it while hooning about. He is now lame in anything other than walk. Not massively - only a bit unlevel. It is tender to the touch as he will pull the leg up, but not hot or inflamed.
It's not a windgall - i wondered whether it's a cyst of some sort and giving it a thump has caused bruising - but in that case why no heat!
I'm stumped!! all advice welcome please!!

Def not a splint as far too low down the leg. If it was fractured i think it would be much more sore than it was.
The lump is still there but he's now sound so i guess i'll just have to forget about it for now!

You need to call your vet. Daisy managed to kick herself hooning about and it turned out she had torn her tendon sheath and allowed the fluid to drain into a cavity causing swelling. Needed treating. After the summer I've had my advice would be that you can't be too careful with legs
