Early today I found a largish round lump about 1 inch under my boys jaw.
See the video clip. It moves it does not seem tender to the touch.
I have called the local vet who will not come out unless its an emergency.
Any one have any experiences with this kind of thing as I am very worried.
I am going to try and get another vet out in the morning.
The horse does not seem in any pain is eating normally.
Any ideas ????

Especially being a grey, I'd get a vet out ASAP.

That said, I also wouldn't panic. I found something that looks very similar on my boy in almost the exact same place just a little lower. Turned out to be an abscess from an infection he'd picked up.

It could be a melemnona (sp) but it might not, my young grey has several round lumps in various places which are suspect but vet has said moniter for the moment, so best get a vet to check out.Unfortunately greys are suseptible to these things.

Why even get a vet out on a weekend ,even if it turns out to be a melanoma. There`s nothing to be done and early in the week is quite soon enough.

Wouldnt know for sure. could be what is called, Grass gland, search for that, horse has head down eating grass all day?
Maybe Armas hasnt had the chance to do that in Spain,
or could be a fly or spider bite?
If you are worried ask your trainer or take him to the vet?
Let us know!

Sorry haven't watched vid (laptop doesn't like them at the mo)so not sure where it is or what it looks like but as it's this time of year, and it's popped up overnight it sounds like could it be grass glands?? Have had a couple of horses in the past that suffered with them every year, nothing to worry about although sometimes it's best to get them off the grass for a bit.

I wouldn't be worrying too much just yet, there are lot's of things environemnt and allergy related that it could be,and like someone else said teeth are another common cause of lumps and bumps on the jaw and face area.

Unless it is painful or growing your vet does not need to see this until monday morning-it has most likely always been there and if not could be a melanoma-not an emergency but good to get it looked at.

Unless the horse is displaying other symptoms e.g. unusually runny nose, not eating or seems depressed, has a temperature or appears uncomfortable then if it were my horse I would just monitor it for a few days and see if it changes - it may even just disappear of it's own accord. From the clip it doesn't look like an emergency.

Ill get the vet out on Monday he also does his teeth. I think it may a problem with his grass gland at least thats what I am hoping. I have recently upped his hard food as he was looking a little thin when he returned from boot camp.
So I am keeping my fingers crossed for an issue with his grass glands

Will keep him in tomorrow cut down the hard food to see if that helps.

It could be anything. I'd simply make an appointment for the vet to come out this week some time for a look see.

How is armas ?

By Sunday night the lump had decreased in size and by Monday it had gone. I restricted his grass intake as from reading it seemed like it was his grass glands that were swollen and the problem.
Restricting the grass intake seems to have done the trick :D
So no vet needed this week thankfully but the farrier and dentist are due.
