This morning I was just running my hands over pony, and put fingers either side of spine and ran them down her back and on her left half way back there is a tight lump.
Does anyone know what it could be

A mare at my yard had a lump appear just to the side of her spine, turned out to be some sort of ligament damage which is taking quite a while to subside.

Has it suddenly appeared?

she was only checked by the mctimmoney 2 weeks ago and was fine down her spine then as previously she was zig zagged down it.
Feel guilty as I don't know how long its been there or if its giving her any discomfort

My boy has a similar lump that came up a few years back. Like Bozzy says turned out to be old ligament damage although he was never lame and never showed discomfort.

Tight muscle or ligament. I would get a physio out to have a look. Also check your saddle fit carefully and look for any lumps or tight areas in the flocking.

I've already rung saddler to see if its the saddle, it does move at the back abit so going to fetch another saddle tomorrow to try on her.
