Lump on Tongue

My horse has a golfball sized lump on the back of his tongue. I have never noticed it there before, but had a growing concern ever since he has been tilting his head to the side and flapping his tongue outside of his mouth. He seems to be breathing fine, eating fine, and drinking fine. Has anyone heard of this happening?

I would get the vet to have a look and then he will probably like to monitor it over time. It may be that it is an abcess or on the other hand it could be cancerous so needs to be taken seriously!

Sorry this isnt really helpful but I do know of a horse this or something similar happened too. It was years ago and the prognosis was poor as the vet said it would grow and grow. On a brighter note this pony is still arround and looking well. I left the yard a long time ago, so dont know what the treatment was etc. I do know at the time the vet said nothing could be done and the owner tried homeopathic remedies out of desperation.
This could be completely different problem to your horse but thought it worth mentioning.

i would get the vet out in case it interfears with his breathing! maybe he has bit his tounge or something could of stung it!

Are you sure it's not always been there and you just haven't noticed it? Quite a few horses have a 'twist' in their tongue that can look like a lump. They are perfectly normal. My horse has one, but his is much further forward than in most horses which makes him uncomfortable in certain bits. I was really worried but my RI, vet and EDT all told me the lump was normal, it was just the position of it that wasn't.
