Hi all has anyone any idea what this may be?
My gelding always gets a bit of a puffy underneath of jaw in the summer months I have always put it down to the change in grass but today I felt a lump. I am 99% it’s a lymph node (feels like one) but he has no other worrysome symptoms like a temp etc and is well in himself. I read this could be due to allergies and on Sunday he was tossing his head about a lot as I forgot to put his nose net on… do you think it may be something to do with that?
I’m not sure how long to leave it before I start to panic 😂IMG_4392.jpeg

Last time my Connie presented with a raised lymph node under his jaw it turned out to be an abscess under a perfectly good molar. No signs of illness, no soreness eating, temperature normal. I would never have known if it hadn’t been for the x-ray because outwardly there were zero signs of anything wrong. Antibiotics couldn’t shift it and he had the tooth removed. Lymph node went down after 4 weeks-6 weeks.

Thank you! How long did you leave it before contacting the vet, conscious about being premature and it going down itself but also conscious about leaving something brewing for longer!

I contacted the vet immediately after finding it but I don’t know how long it had been raised. I hadn’t noticed it grooming him as it was mid winter and he’s a hairy Connie and it was my equine dentist who noticed the lump while rasping his teeth. I felt like a terrible owner but so glad it was found.

My vet thought it could have been something as simple as a hay seed which had worked its way down through the gum which caused the abscess as the tooth was so perfect.
