Lump under ponys tail :S

Hi i hope this is the right place to post this.
Im off injured from a fall so spending a lot of time surfing HHO to ease the lack of horses in my life :(

Been reading other peoples posts and its made me worry *more than i normally am :P*

My pony has a small lump on the skin on the underside of her tail. Ive had her a year and its always been there, it hasnt changed shape, doesnt seem sore and doesnt seem to affect her.

Should i be worried?

Is she grey? In which case I would hazard a guess at it being a melanoma. My pony has some. If you search on this forum you will find lots of references to them. But if you're worried by it then you should speak to your vet as only they can make a proper diagnosis.

Yes she is grey though some days i do question this!!
If it is a melanoma, should i be getting the vet out?? It doesnt seem to have changed in the year ive had her, is it life threatening?
I always check it and it doesnt seem to have changed or multiplied or anything?

I'm not really an expert, and there are lots of better people to ask.

But with mine, the vet was coming out anyway within a couple of weeks of me noticing them (they are quite tucked away under his tail and he has just stopped being in livery and started being kept at home, so I tend to notice more things than I used to!).

Vet said so long as they weren't changing/growing at a rapid rate and didn't worry him, then to leave them. They can be removed if they are causing an obstruction/irritation. My pony is 18, so not young.

But, this was my vet, and he saw my pony. Your vet may think differently. If I were you, I would get the vet to check them to put your mind at rest. Or at least give him/her a call to discuss.

ETA I have to check the colour of mine sometimes as well! :)
