Also in veterinary....

I found 4 ticks on my boy last week. 2 of them were horrid orange things and where they bit, there is now a lump. The lump was there when I found the ticks so assuming it was a reaction, but I thought it would have gone down once they were removed?

It's definitely just under the skin, as I can pull the skin away and feel the lump. It's like a hard pea size ball... I'm just wondering if it's something I should worry about/do something about? Or whether it should go away of it's own accord?

Any ideas/advice, greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

I will be that when you removed the tics, the bit that sucks the blood, broke away and is stuck inside and is now irratating, i have not delt with it in horses but i think it might go away on its own. My dog had the same problem and it sorted its self out. If it gets worse then call the vet for advice.

I got bit by a tick myself this weekend for the first time (still in trauma over it!!) got the whole thing out and I can confirm that my own bite is still itchy, raised and swollen so i don't think that it is anything to worry about for your boy. Apparently they can take up to 2 weeks to settle down, a bit like a bad mosquito bite.....

If he starts to act lethargic or in pain then I'd call the vet, otherwise just put antiseptic cream and/or fly spray on it and keep it clean.

My dog has been getting ticks lately and i have removed them and given him a dose of front line and he is now left with dodgey lumps and i asked in the dog bit on here and was told its ok they should go down in a couple of weeks.
