Hi, anyone else had this? I feel awful as I always try to do the best for my mare and of course this involves keeping the flies at bay. I have been spraying her all summer with no reactions at all. All over a period of a couple of days, she comes in with little bumps on her neck!

Just having washed fleece, decided to have all rugs washed in case it was washing powder, cut out all hard feed, propel plus, carrots, poor Rox. But still spraying with fly spray esp on the neck to keep the flies off the lumps.

More bumps appearing on the neck, shoulders, back and belly and even on the quarters, but in a smaller capacity. Then check fly spray. It said that it may cause allergic reaction. So I immediately wash her with anti-allergenic shampoo which strips off chemicals etc. Lumps got better but not disappeared. 4 days ago, I tried friends fly spray as lots of flies about and the next day, more lumps and bumps. Gave her another sponge over/wash last night but lumps are still looking aggressive esp on the neck. Anyone else had this and what did you do to get rid of lumps. I read somewhere the other day that you can get herbal supplement to help with this, anyone heard of it?
Many thanks

Yep! My old chap had a really bad reaction, got totally frantic. We rang the company and they suspected it was the lavendar oil as apparently (dont quote me) it can be an irritant for some horses. So it might be worth checking the ingredients.
None of my others reacted at all.

I'd try to change your fly spray! - the only times when any of mine have had a reaction is when I have put the spray on after they have worked/ been washed off as the pores are still open and so the repellent gets into their skin.

I did try friends as it was a different make. This made them come up again. This morning, I figured that I hadnt washed under her belly and as the lumps are taking a long time to go away, I washed her completely including her belly with Tresemme, the shampoo that strips hair of build up chemicals. When I fetched her in tonight, the lumps are halved in both the size and the quantity, so I feel a little better and I am sure Roxy is. Hopefully by the morning, they will be almost gone. Thanks for your replies. I had even phoned the vet this morning to book a call out, but they didnt ring me back til after 5pm. They told me not to worry and that if they hadnt got any better within 2-3 days, then ring them and they can come out and give her something. Hopefully I wont have to now.
