hey, My mare for a few days now has had lumps on her skin. Mainly on her belly, but some dotted on her bum and neck they are in the middle of her bum and neck, They started off as rasied areas and know they feel like they have turned to scaps some just raised lumps and some feel scabbey. They are bothering her as they are really itchy. Looks a bit like rain scald but it cant be as she has not got wet. She is rugged.

has anyone else had a horse with this, she is fine in herself but just wonderd if anyone had any ideas what it is? ?

we are going to go to ring the vets tomorrow to see what they say!!
thanks!

Hmm, my saddler (who is EXTREMELY knowledgable!) told me they were the protein remains of worms when theyve died, they come to the skin and come out in little yellowy scabs, almost like over sized spots!?? But if you havent wormed her, that wont be it!! Could be an allergy, has anything changed in diet/been washed in a washing powder etc?

She has been on the same feed for a good month, the only thing is i have changed her chaff to apple chaff, couldnt see how that could make a dramtic differance, she was turned out in a larger field and has not had that feed for about a 3/4 days . No she hasnt been ridden for 5 days so cant think it could be the saddle cloth. I dont know hehex

when we changed our old pony to a more heavily mollased chaff, she came up in little lumps like your describing a few weeks later, changed it back to original chaff and they went after a while
