Or better know as Equine Collagenolytic Granuloma.

Does anyone have a horse with this..?

How do you manage it..? ESP under saddle

My mare had been diagnosed with it, lumps under saddle, small but a few are rubbing.

I've been advised by vet to have 2 sheepskin numnah and swap daily to keep clean.

Put E45 cream on her skin. Don't over bath her, and use cotton sheet u rdr rugs again to keep her very clean.

He hoping if I do this for a few weeks they should settle down

Here is photo, it's worse on this side, other side not bad.

I have seen this many times. It is due to the saddle and/or saddle cloth. Sometimes if the flocking is uneven, even slightly it will cause them. Sometimes it is due to sweating. If due to sweating then every time the horse is ridden the area must be washed and dried thoroughly using a solution of maleseb or equivalent. If due to pressure (lumpy flocking, seams in a sheepskin saddle cloth etc) then those issues need to be addressed. I have experienced it in one horse that no matter what we did they stayed there. That was until she had some extended time off and now they have gone.

My horse had one and I mean just one lump under his saddle. It was due to the lovely Le Mieux numnah I had bought, it was too thick for the fit of the saddle, tipped it back a bit putting all the weight to the cantle and therefore putting pressure where the lump was. The advice of the Vet, leave alone it didnt hurt him. Saddle advice was sell the numnah and go back to his half wool Nuumed one. He had a week or so off and it shrunk and went of its own accord. Vet said they can be taken out but that it would cause more problems than it solved.

Yeah as she has so many neither removal or injecting into them is a option

I have been washing in maleseb but I've been told to stop as it strips skin of natural oils etc, after ridden I've just to gentle wash sweat with warm water and dry completely

Not to brush her much there either, she fully clipped, I've not to clip the saddle area again he also said. Some of them are rubbing right to the bare skin which worries me a bit. She does not seemed bothered but I'm concerned they will get infected

I assume I will now need to get her a decent proper bug buster fly rug for summer eh..??

I would keep area as clean as possible too with warm water only as you suggest. Wash your numnahs in Nuumed Nuuwash which is made for the job, avoiding household products which may irritate the skin. If flys are a problem then yes a good fly rug is an idea, though these lumps may be nothing to do with flies.

Yeah will buy some if that, not sure about flys just googled it and it said they can cause it too. Only had her since Oct so not sure if flys bother her, but think I might just stick one on rather than wait and find out - eh..???

I too have seen this many times .
Oral antibiotics helps most horses.
Sheepskin in my experiance always makes it worse.
You need to keep the horse as lightly rugged as possible and leave unrugged even if clipped a little time every day.
Whenever there's sunlight tie on the yard in the sun.
A thermatex numah was the answer for one horse.
Aloevera gel and or spray .
I keep horse that get this close clipped .
Always walk with Malaseb or similar after clipping ( that when it spreads around )
Washing in weak head and shoulders works for some horses.
when spring comes and sun comes out it usually magically clears .

Oh so you think i should not use sheepskin..? He thought this as good for absorbing sweat.

Hmmm don't want to spend £80 if it's not going to work.
