Very similar to Urticaria but the strange thing is, that these lumps have appeared twice now (both times a day or two after hunting.)

Could it be a sweat/mud rash? Both times we have got absolutely plastered in mud but I am always careful to make sure I wash him off thoroughly after. However, he is a bit hairy again as he is ready to be re-clipped. The other thing I thought it could be is something in the soil in the crop fields which he is allergic to.

Last week when he had it, he was very sore so I had to get the vet out but she just gave him some bute and said it should go down in a few days (which it did) This time, the lumps have reappeared but are smaller and although he is a little sensitive, he isn't as bad this time so hopefully it will be gone again in a couple of days.

Anyone else experienced this?

Is it an Appy? If so they can have odd skin, well the two I've had can have some funny reactions. They both had/have a reaction to certain plants by having glands over their cheek bones swell, never had this with other breeds! The old Appy used to get lumps that then whent crusty, all over her body and we think that was a plant as it was at the same time of year each time. They always just went down on their own, and she never seemed ill with them.

Yep he's a part bred Appy. He gets 'grass glands' too in the summer and is just very sensitive in general. Do you know which plant it might have been?

Mine got/get grass glands as well as the wierd ones on their faces! The Old girl we always suspected got hers from hawthorn, but as we have always managed to keep them on very mixed grazing, it has been very difficult to isolate which plant it was!

Definietly - mine is a right character - won't even let the vet touch him without leaping around!! They are definitely not everyone's cup of tea though - I know people who won't have them on their yard!

Good grief! Mind you the old girl was a bit of a houdini, could open doors etc. and was known to 'fall out' of fields! The current girl is very well mannered (brought up proper :p) but sharp as a tack, sometimes gives my Dad a bit of a fright as he isn't reeady for her to move as quickly as she does :)
