Before anyone jumps on me i AM phoning the vet (tomorow)!....But i did get it looked at about 2ish months ago and it was a bit smaller - the vet told me to leave it unless it becomes a problem

The lump is about the diameter of a 10p pence and its under her neck - where the base of the flymask (full face) would sit. its also about 1.5cm- 2cm;s high

It dosent seem to hurt if i touch it but shes definately not happy - Has anyone elses horse had the same thing?

Its definately NOT strangles, its been there for a good 5-6 months +, nor do i think its to do with her teeth (they were done in feb but i can get her redone)

I know im bgetting the vet out but would appreciate some ideas what it is it could be as when i asked the vet she said "a number of things" - so what would be the best route - ? sample of it?étc?

Any suggestions?

thanks recieved - more like the noseband area :)

Anyone else - i am getting it checked out anyhow as its bugging me too... :) but would like ideas if they want to investigate it........... and im not claiming on my insurance so would like some suggestions :)

If its hard, & under her chin where a noseband fastens, it could be a small fracture of the lower jaw. Of the two I've seen, one had slight swelling too. Not as bad as it sounds, both were treated with a few weeks rest & bute for one who showed discomfort chewing. Iirc surgery was an option, but only if the owner didn't want a lump to scar them. Or if grey a melanoma? Small abcess? Sarcoid?

Knew a horse with something similar, but further up. Turned out to be some sort of melanoma that burst like a massive abscess. Was horrendous, horse couldn't even walk in a straight line and very miserable, was nearly PTS but improved a few days before decision was going to be made. Antibiotics, poulticing (was fun trying to bandage his head/throat area. Definitely wasn't strangles. Vets investigated but didn't really have a clue. Horse had two others at base of ears that grew but didn't burst and then stopped growing. Horse recovered and went back to full work, just needed a larger browband to accommodate the larger lumps.

Thanks both - definately glad im ringing the vet tomorow

She lives out 24/7 now (she did live in until about 3 months ago - she had the lump then too but it was tiny)....

Shes also not ridden/retired - shes 6!...

Shes a miserable cow anyhow so makes me wonder if thats bugging her too?
