Lumpy rash

My horse is super sensitive. He suffers from sweet itch which is under control with anti histamines and a sweet itch rug. for about 8 days now he has been covered in a lumpy rash.

This is something he does tend to suffer with but the lumps seem to go down with antihistamines after a couple of days. I just can't seem to shift it this time. Some days the lumps have nearly gone and then by the evening they are back but in a different area.

Please help me! It's driving me mad!

This is exactly what my mares got! Covered in a lumpy rash with flecks of hair loss and scabs here and there! She has sweetitch too so has been rugged since march. Changed rug in case it was the washing powder, washed with very dilute hibi, plain water, hypoallergenic shampoo. Put on hypocare, aloe vera gel, sudocrem on the scabs. No change- if anything more lumps popping up. She doesn't seem bothered by them but she looks bloomin awful!

I'm now inclined to think its just something to do with the new grass/new coat/ change in weather. She's a very allergic horse anyway... so not much help I'm afraid!

Oh god I'm so glad it isn't just me. I'm usually really clued up with stuff like this but I cant shift it at all!! He was on steroids all last summer for the amount of allergies he develops but I'm trying to avoid that this year!

I haven't tried Hypocare but I will give it a go. The lumps had nearly gone this morning but I'm sure they will re appear by tea time!

I've left him today in just a sweet itch rug even though it was freezing this morning. I know it's supposed to warm up a lot today so I thought it was better to be cold for a few hours as I think getting too warm makes them worse!

P.s I'm glad I'm not the only one that fly rugs in March ... The people at my yard think I'm absolutely bonkers but they just don't understand how frustrating it is.

My mare suffers with lumpy rashes quite often too (more from getting too hot, allergic to washing powder etc rather than feed/sweetitch). She had quite a nasty one a couple of month ago which has oozy sores and I used hypocare, along with a steroid cream my vets make up but that wasn't shifting it that quickly so got a tub of NAF DTox, fed at the loading dose but it really helped get rid of the lumps. I've used it a couple of times when I have had bumps I cannot shift! Might be worth a try?

I turned my mare out last night with only her sweet itch rug on as a last resort (she's fully clipped too!!), thinking it could have been heat rash. They're certainly less angry looking today so hoping it may have been that.

I will defiantly try the NAF DTox thank you!! I will order some now actually. That is one thing I haven't tried.

Mine is too. He's fully clipped and he as just in a sheet last night and then naked his morning! I will see if the cold this morning has got rid of the lumps when I get there lol! I don't feel as guilty now lol.
