I moved my horses last weekend to new grazing. Am off the rest of the week, so been back to old field today to have a tidy up, take down old electric fence etc.

I took the dogs with me, Luna attached to my new belt/lead thingy. As there were no horses any more, and field has secure fencing the farm put in, I thought we would practice the recall we’ve been learning at obedience class. (She won’t ever be let off anywhere not secure, but would give me peace of mind knowing she would come back if she accidentally got free).

When I let her off, she mooched for a few steps, seemed to realise she was free, then she RAN!!! I almost pooped myself, started to panic, then remembered the classes. SHE CAME BACK! Gave her a big fuss, treat out of my pocket, and she was off lead for probably about an hour. She did have a “deaf” moment when my friend arrived, but overall, am so so proud of her. I did take a little bit of video, but unfortunately, imgur doesn’t seem to want to upload it.

I love my doggies xx

Ive had my rescue for about 4 years and i dont regularly off lead with him cause hes is a bit deaf (on purpose or not im not sure) but i know he comes back if he sees you are too far awy. but i had a nice little day today pottering about the yard and he was following me helping round up the ponies and feed the cats. Ive not done this before cause my other dog was a bit cat aggressive and didnt follow and any gate open was a "run for the hills" type scenario. Since she passed away at new years hes been clingy but its nice, i have a little buddy at the yard now which ive always wanted :) its so nice when it all works out

I totally agree, and we’ve been looking into enclosed dog parks we can take her for a good run. Found a few, and trying one week after next. A lot have husky meets where honorary huskies (like Aled) can go too!

Sorry about your other dog equi, but I’m glad you’ve now got your buddy.

Went up the horses after, and kept Luna clipped to me. Unfortunately, when we got there, mac came over to say hi, and Luna jumped up the fence. She got a shock off the electric, and I think she now thinks Mac did it to her, as she spent the whole time keeping me between her and them, when she was meant to be getting used to them.

The horses are all good with dogs.

Those pesky fences! I was working at a kennel once and they had a leccy fence paddock for the pony (which i somehow ended up looking after too???) and this one huge aggressive st.ber came in and i was the only person experienced enough to deal with him. One day i was walking him and he pulled to the fence and i couldnt physically stop him and he got a shock, and thinking it was me turned on me! I couldn't walk past his kennel after that without him trying to kill me, but as still the most experienced and senior worker i had to deal with him haha! Even had to groom the turd before he went home as that was one of our services. Hateful animal, i hope his owners never went on holiday again cause god help anyone else having to deal with that beast.
