My Shetland filly is 3 and was getting bored just being in the field. So I decided to teach her voice commands and lungeing in prep for her to be backed next year.

She will walk and halt on both reins on the lunge and will trot and canter on the lead rein to voice commands.

But...
She's now started to play up, knowing her as I do, she is telling me that she is bored.

I was always taught to get her doing walk and trot on the lunge before moving on, but she is obviously bored on the lunge now, after only a week.

Shall I move on to teaching her to long rein or shall I get her doing more on the lunge?
I can't quite decide what is best.

Any advice appreciated.

Also her back, feet and teeth are in top condition and were checked within the last month.

maybe spruce things up with a pole on the ground ?? or try long reining but walk behind her (a bit like driving ) and try to move though L shaped poles or something like that ??

I like the pole idea! I want to keep going until she is trotting on the lunge (she walks like a dream) so a pole would definitely change it about a bit!
Thank you x

Variety is the spice of life! Lunge, in hand work, long rein, groundwork, walk out in hand. No need to do the same things over and over especially with a bright one
