Was once told that 15-20 mins of lunging is equivalent to about an hours schooling? Is this true? Obviously must depend on the work being done though...

i just don't really understand how that can work? maybe it's just me being stupid!

circling requires the horse to use more muscles, in a different way. (thats what I have always been told anyway)

I have also been told this before, I think it is because they have to work harder on a smaller circle.

I think it's because they're going round several times in less time (If that makes ANY sense?!) and using more muscles! xx

Yes agree with all of the above, its more exacting on their joints and more of a physical effort.
