Just after a bit of advice as i'm going a bit stir crazy!

I had open surgery 2 weeks ago to remove a large ovarian cyst. I was in hospital the first week then signed off work for another 5 weeks. Had to have a vertical incision due to the size of the cyst and i've been told no riding for about 6 weeks as the muscles all need to heal etc. I've been online to see if i could shortcut this but everything i've found says that it would likely prolong the healing if i attempted riding any sooner. However, i can't find anything about whether i'd be able to lunge? I'm walking about happily now and i'm bored watching films and watching daytime tv!!! My OH is exercising my horse for me a few times a week but as i'm stuck doing nothing if i could do that then it would be a bonus.

Anyone had anything similar that could advise me?

i dont think it would be a good idea. all the muscles are linked up throughout your abdomen into your arms so if you were to be holding the lunge line & the horse was to jolt you it could result in the wounds site re-opening & further problems making it even longer before you can ride again. there are reasons why surgeons tell you not to do things, they usually know what they are on about! i know its frustrating not being able to ride, i wasnt able to for over 5months last year. let your OH do the exercising for now, it will be worth it in the end,

I would have thought it was a VERY bad idea!

I completely sympathise though, I had a ligament reconstruction on my knee just over 3weeks ago...it's killing me not working, driving, riding!!!!

Ok thanks. I thought as much! Just trying to think of things i could do. Fab's kept at home so at least when i go for a walk i can go and see him in the paddock.
