Hello all. I'm looking for a lunging aid that will help to build my boy's topline, get him working long and low using his back properly and not encourage him to tuck in his nose (he has a tendency to curl his neck rather than stretch into the contact so I want to avoid anything that will reinforce that). The chambon looks like it may fit the bill, what are your experiences and is there anything else that may help?

I've only used side reins and a lungee bungee before so all suggestions welcome!

I really like using the chambon as it doesn't bunch them up like side reins can, and is a bit simpler than a pessoa.

Does seem to really improve on mine's topline too :)

i like the chambon, but prefer the 'pair of draw reins over back, through front legs to either bit rings or to cavesson rings' gadget myself. especially when fitted to the cavesson, and through a loose neckstrap, i think it's the perfect lungeing gadget, and with no mouth pressure there's no reason for any horse to curl up.
i posted a while ago about this with pics of my bay mare in the gadget (pink draw reins used to show clearly how it was fitted) but that was to bit rings, I actually prefer using it to cavesson only now.
hope that helps.

Hi, i would recommend the HO Lungeing Aid, quite easy to make yourself as well, because quite pricy imo. It is literally a long piece of rope with clips on each end which can either attach to bit or cavesson. Ropes pass between the front legs and meet on top of horse at saddle area. You dont use a roller with it. It really encourages long and low without force, it moves along the back area depending on where horses head is.

I think Laura B uses it, I think if you look on the Horsehero site there is a video of it being used. It does look like they can get thier legs tangled in it but it has never happened to me, and trust me my horses can really fool around on the lunge if they are in the mood. I got mine from the schockemohle website :)

ditto ljr, but you can achieve the same using a pair of draw reins. place them over the back and bring them up between the legs and attach to the bit. if necessary tie the excess at the top in a knot. worked wonders for my friend ish who didn't know how to relax through his back. amazing difference in 2 sessions (NB can't guarantee same results though ;) )

Hi all. Thanks for the (remarkably consistent!) responses. Kerilli - I remember seeing your pics so I'll dig them out and DIY it.

Will let you know how we get on!

if you put it to the cavesson rings, i think it's safer to thread it through a long neckstrap first, otherwise it can hang a bit dangerously close to the floor when they stretch down... nearly gave me a heart attack, although horse didn't tread on it thank god!
